The 5th Annual Plant Exchange

Happy Spring! The peas are up and the blueberries are COVERED in tiny white blossoms. So I watch them with great anticipation. As much as I adore daffodil season, plucking hundreds of finished flower stalks is not so much fun. Some of my hardy bananas have popped up but i fear the cold winter may have done a few in. Regardless there is great joy in this coming season.

For those of you who may be wondering where I disappeared to for most of the last year, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer in May, right before the Plant Exchange.  Didn’t tell of lot of people that day, because of course the show must go on.  It was a fabulous day with great attendance, great food and great music.   Immediately after that began the gruesome ordeal. Happy to report that just before Christmas I was declared cancer free.  Yay!! Still on maintenance treatments and my hair has a long way to go but I am slowly getting my strength back.

In celebration of that I am so pleased to announce the 5th Annual Plant Exchange which will be May 24.  Starts at noon and runs till about 4.  It will be at Tiny Farm, 838 Old Corlies Ave., Neptune.

Rules same as always.  You are asked to bring a finger food item to share. Or individual beverages.  Not too many desserts, please.  We try to avoid paper plates and plasticware.  Bring any plants you want to share. And/or pots, tools, books, vases, garden décor, etc. Gnomes are welcome! Take what interests you.  If you plan to bring a lot, I suggest you bring a table.  We will have lots of tables but they tend to fill up quickly.  Assistance the day before or before noon to help set up, or after to help clean up is appreciated but not required.

Once again music will be provided by JT Rox.

Tommy is bringing in several additional musicians so we can expect some great Rock and Roll to keep things lively. I intend to dance. It will be part of my personal celebration. I hope you will join me!

I do hope to get my Sunday morning podcasts going again soon. Will keep you posted on that.

Really looking forward to seeing you!

Dear Pegi and Tom,

Best wishes for the rest of the Memorial Day weekend.

Thank you for your hospitality and a lovely plant swap. I spoke to you, Pegi, briefly, but got a bit star-struck/tongue-tied and neglected to thank you. (I started listening to you as teen, with my mom, and we both read your newspaper column.)  It was a very nice gathering and the music was excellent.

I have been reading up on the care and requirements for the milkweed, hosta and 2 tomato plants that I brought home and will be planting them in a bit.

We are so very glad that you are doing and feeling well.  Gardening and dancing and having animals must keep a person…
